She had a typical, normal childhood to the point where it was almost picture perfect. She went away to college like any normal kid would do.

But all that would change in her third year of college...Fate had a way of dealing its cards in odd ways.

A couple years passed and she was head of a project that was her idea. A project involving molten glass. When terrorists attacked the college and caused several large explosions, she had been in one of the labs. When the first explosion occurred nearby, she had accidentally sliced open her hand and bled into her project. She was unaware of the contamination or that it reacted to the organic material in a flash. When the second explosion hit the lab she was in, her experiment sprayed her.

When she came to in the hospital several weeks later...she didn't have a mark on her body, nor could she remember many of the events surrounding the attack. The doctors couldn't explain it, her lack of injuries. She should have been badly burned and given a low percentage rate of survival. Test after test showed nothing wrong with her, in fact, she was perfectly healthy.

Back at college, several months having passed since the ordeal, she had a nervous breakdown from the stress of finals. There were too many strange events happening around her, glass of any sort breaking when she passed or became over emotional. She left the college with the promise to herself to return and graduate when she was feeling better.

It was around that time, that she really noticed things weren't right with her. How mirrors, windows, anything made of glass seemed to react to her. And one night in a fit of anger...melted every object made of glass in her apartment..reforming it to just a thought of anything she wanted. Shocked and a little more than scared, she returned to her school to get access to the labs...and discovered a horrible truth that had been overlooked...her experimental project had bonded to her in a way she couldn't explain it.

Keeping this to herself...she practiced her strange new ability with glass....refining it. Though she hadn't found a way to trigger it, she could repair the damage. Amelia never let anyone know what had happened to her or what she could do. As she has yet to figure out what to do with it herself.

So she moved to the big city to try and get her life back in order. While out shopping and unknowingly, she caught the attention of an X-Men, Piotr (Peter) Rasputin. The two struck up a friendly enough conversation, leading to him bringing her to the Mansion.

Amelia has spent quite a few months at the mansion already. But so far no luck in being able to get her talent under control. She made a few friends but stuck mostly to herself due to the unpredictable nature of the Silica, her "pet science project". It was during a rare moment of being down in the rec room, did she get to accidentally meet Nate Grey. Accidentally, as her little science project (The Silica), as she called it, attacked him without warning or provocation. She felt terrible about the incident.

The incident did have an interesting result as there was something about Nate that attracted her and it apparently was mutual between the two of them. She, at first, being content with friendship. But the more time they spent around each other, the more she found herself falling for him. They would have long conversations late into the night, learning about each other as well. Nate eventually had managed to take her out on their first date to Dublin, Ireland on a spur of the moment trip and she was amazed by the things he showed her. She not at all perturbed by the fact that he was an extremely powerful mutant. In fact she exhibited immense understanding to who and what he was.

A few months go by and the sudden appearance of a giant robot arriving at the school, sends the mansion into chaos. Amelia was outside when it appeared and wound up being its first target. Being pulled up inside the robot and plugged into it, Amelia no longer could think for herself. Nate was unable to reach her, but he could "speak" to the Silica. With their aid, was the robot eventually defeated, Amelia was jettisoned to the ground where Nate and Nightcrawler pulled her from the pod. It was a harrowing experience for her and made her realize how much she had feelings for Nate. But she kept it to herself til she could find the courage to tell him. Nate finally just flat out asked her out and to be his girlfriend. She was more than happy to accept. It finally came down to another moment, that made them both realize how much they had feelings for each other and a bit of a confession time. So they made it official and began dating each other openly.

With Nate's assistance, Amelia tries hard to control the Silica. It's not an easy feat for her. But Nate is patient as they work through this together. Time flies as it does with all happy couples. Nate and Amelia's relationship is unique and very loving. The two are rarely apart for any length of time and eventually they quietly become engaged.
